Philadelphia Eleven Screening and Reception – February 25, 2024, Hollins University

The St. James Daughters of the King chapter and the Hollins University Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion sponsored  a screening of the documentary The Philadelphia Eleven, followed by a reception. The film explores the lives of eleven women who were ordained as Episcopal priests in 1974, in violation of the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church.  After the screening, the Rev. Deborah Hentz Hunley gave remarks on her experience as the first woman ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia in 1977.  Also attending was the Rev. Betty Powell, who was one of 4 more women irregularly ordained in 1975. (Read more about the event here.)
