Lent begins on March 1st, and we will mark this liturgically with our Ash Wednesday services at 12:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. We invite you to join us at St. James for your Lenten journey with the following events and opportunities:
Lent is one of the times of the Church year when it is particularly appropriate to make a private confession. The Book of Common Prayer has the form for the Reconciliation of a Penitent, page 447. You may contact the church office to schedule an appointment with the Rector.
Lenten Adult Education Program – Sunday, March 12, 11:45 a.m. – following coffee hour, join us for the movie “The Good Lie,” a moving and unforgettable true story about South Sudanese refugees who have resettled in the Kansas City area. A simple soup lunch will be offered during the movie, which will last approximately 2 hours and be followed with a brief discussion. This movie is the story of the experience of many of our South Sudanese freinds who are here in Roanoke. All are welcome.
Red Cross Blood Drive – Friday, March 24, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The St. James Daughters of the King encourage you and your family, friends, and neighbors to give the gift of life this Lent and sign up to donate blood.
Lenten Healing Service with Holy Eucharist – Saturday, April 1, 4:00 p.m. – All are welcome to this dedicated healing service with the laying on of hands and anointing. This liturgy is for healing of every kind, whether physical, spiritual, or emotional. None of us are exempt from needing God’s healing presence in our lives, and from being a healing presence in the lives of others.
